Rabat – Amid economic shock and crisis, Lebanon has witnessed today, August 15,  another devastating explosion that left nearly 28 dead and injured over 79 people;

The blast came after the explosion of a fuel tank in Akkar, in the north of the country.

The Lebanese government seized a fuel tank used by underground fuel marketers for providing gasoline to residents at the time of the explosion, Reuters said.

The news outlet reported that 200 people were nearby when the explosion took place.

The Ministry of Health in Lebanon emphasized that severely injured people must receive immediate treatment overseas.

Army and security personnel were among those injured, reports further said.

The Red Cross in Lebanon are still searching for potential survivors in the explosion site.

The explosion comes amid an economic crisis that the country has been experiencing for months.

Citizens and residents in Lebanon are expressing anger and frustration on social networks, denouncing the lack of food supplies.

Former prime Minister Saad al-Hariri expressed concerns and frustrations after the explosion in Akkar, saying that the incident is similar to the port explosion of last year.

Last year in August, Beirut experienced a devastating explosion at its port, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries.

Following last year’s blast, Morocco deployed military aid aircrafts  to Lebanon, including a field hospital, as a gesture of solidarity and support forLebanese people.

The initiative received applause from public figures in Lebanon, including artists and singers, who expressed gratitude to King Mohammed VI for supporting the Lebanese people during times of crisis.
