Rabat – A new heatwave is expected to hit from Wednesday to Saturday in several provinces across Morocco, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) announced.

The ministry reported that temperatures in the interior of the Souss region are expected to increase significantly from Wednesday.

Temperatures ranging from 42 to 45 degrees Celsius will take place on Thursday in  Assa Zag, Beni Mellal, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Es-Smara, Fquih Ben Saleh, Guelmim, Khenifra, Khouribga, Marrakech, Rehamna, Settat, Sidi Ifni, Taroudant, Tata, and Zagora, according to the DMN orange level weather alert.

Temperatures will range between 44 and 48 degrees from Friday to Saturday in the provinces of Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanan, Assa-Zag, Chtouka Ait-Baha, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Es-Smara,  and Fquih Ben Saleh, and Guelmim.

The same weather will affect the Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Khenifra, Khouribga, Marrakech, Rehamna, Settat, Sidi Ifni, Taroudant, Tata, Tiznit, and Zagora.

Morocco has been experiencing constant heatwaves recently.

Temperatures exceeded to 49 degrees in some provinces;

DMN  released a press release recently, explaining the factors behind the heatwaves.

The rise  in temperatures, according to DMN, can be attributed to a mass of dry, warm air that originated from southern regions.,

Last week, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) also stated that electricity consumption has increased across the country since July 5.

The surge in electricity consumption is due to the overuse of air conditioning among other factors, ONEE explained.
