Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Environment has granted the Canadian mining operation Aya Silver & Gold seven new exploration permits. Five of the permits are located near the Zgounder mine 200 kilometers east of Agadir while the remaining two are located near the Azegour mine 250 kilometers to the northeast of Agadir.
“These acquisitions enable us to leverage our existing regional knowledge and infrastructure to identify potential geological showings that can ultimately be drilled up to grow our resource base and enhance shareholder value for all stakeholders,” said Aya’s President and CEO Benoit La Salle.
The Zgounder mine is located in the southern flank of Morocco’s High Atlas region, which is rich with copper, silver, and gold.
The most recent land grant will expand off of the Zgounder mine as, Aya, formerly known as Maya Silver & Gold, owned and operated the suspended, underground mine shaft.
As for the two new permits in Azegour, Aya seeks to take advantage of the region’s abundance of gold, molybdenum, tungsten, and copper.
Supplemented by an investment agreement, the Canadian mining operation works alongside Algold’s Tijirit Project in Mauritania to fund the Moroccan mining operations.
Aya’s total land position in Morocco is now at 40% as the company operates on 168 square kilometers and 129 square kilometers in Zgounder and Azegour respectively.
According to Aya’s website, “the additions form part of Aya’s strategy to consolidate its land position within the highly prospective Anti-Atlas region in the Kingdom of Morocco.”
Aya’s CEO noted that exploration on the sites is set to begin “in the coming months.”
