Rabat – Female students outperformed their male classmates both in terms of success rate and highest grades scored in Morocco’s 2021 baccalaureate (university entrance exam), according to statistics Education Minister Said Amzazi posted on his Facebook page on Sunday.

Amina Zerouali, a student from the Marrakech-Safi region, obtained the highest mark in Morocco’s university entrance exam this year, scoring 19.53/20 in the branch of the Physical sciences in French.

The second-highest score nationally in the Moroccan baccalaureate in the same branch went to Arkik Doha, in Beni Mellal Khenifra, and the third-highest to Boukhris Nada from Souss Massa.

Amina completed her high school education in a private institution, “Complexe Al Avail,” in Marrakech.

The young girl told 2M in an appearance on the “Info Soir” program that she was pleased and satisfied with the results of her hard work. She added that although she was used to getting good grades during her academic years, she did not expect to get the highest score nationally.

Amina attributes her success to hard work and persistence. She told Moroccan media that she designed a strategy to address her shortcomings in all subjects.

She also added that her parents’ and professors’ support helped her a lot on this journey.

“I am interested in two domains… architecture and medicine, but I have an inclination for medicine,” she said when asked about her post-baccalaureate plans.

Amina’s father, Abdelfattah Zerouali, said he is very proud of his daughter and that he was happy her efforts and long and difficult journey were crowned with such success.

Amina’s performance was an increase of 0.06 points from last year’s highest score of 19.47/20, obtained by Zineb Waski, a student in the region of Rabat-Sale-Kenitra.

Moreover, Amina’s twin sister obtained the second-highest mark regionally in Marrakech. In an interview statement, the two sisters said that their preparation together for the baccalaureate was a key factor in their success.

The Ministry of Education announced the results of Morocco’s 2021 baccalaureate on June 20.

According to the official statistics, a total of 221.031 candidates from both public and private institutions successfully passed this year’s baccalaureate exams.

This corresponds to a 68,43% success rate for this year 2021, an increase of 5.35% compared to the previous session, according to data from the Ministry of Education.
