Rabat – The international multilateral military exercise African Lion 2021 concluded on June 18, after 9 days of workshops, exercises and exhibitions. Every year Morocco hosts the African Lion joint exercises, one of the most complex and important military training events worldwide.

As the large-scale naval, aerial and army exercises concluded, participants and observers described the event as a success, following a year when the COVID-19 pandemic led to the postponement of the event.

Greene spoke to Morocco World News on the tarmac in Tan-Tan

US Charge D’Affaires David Greene of the US Embassy in Rabat attended the final day of African Lion 2021 in order to witness the spectacular display of US-Morocco military cooperation.

Greene spoke to Morocco World News on the tarmac in Tan-Tan, describing African Lion as the “flagship element underpinning US-Morocco military relations.”

“We have a very wide-ranging partnership with Morocco,” Greene explained. The deep ties between the armed forces of both countries are “vital” according to Greene. The military-to-military relationship enjoyed by the US and Morocco “underpins a lot of what the US is trying to accomplish in terms of regional security and stability.”

Greene expanded on his statement by emphasizing to MWN that military cooperation “is just one part of a broader network of economic, diplomatic and cultural ties.”

As African Lion 2021 concludes, thousands of mobilized troops will slowly be making their way back to their respective barracks after 9 days of intense training that featured live-fire exercises, artillery and aerial bombardment training, in addition to extensive infantry maneuvers, medical, and logistics related events.
