Rabat – The CWTS Leiden ranking for best universities included the University of Mohammed V in Rabat in its list released in June 2021.
The University is the first Moroccan higher education institution to appear on the CWTS Leiden ranking.
The CWTS Leiden Ranking is an annual global universities ranking and this year’s report included 1225 universities from 69 countries, including 26 Arab universities and 27 African universities.
The CWTS Leiden Ranking “Center for Science and Technology Studies” is affiliated with the University of Leiden in the Netherlands and has been evaluating the performances of the best universities worldwide since 2007.
It ranks universities based on their contributions to research and knowledge creation.
CWTS bases its report on three indicators relating to research: the scientific impact of the publication, open access publication, and international and gender approach in the author’s publications.
The data used for the ranking is from the scientific database “Web of Science” and has been the primary resource for the last four years.
According to a press release from Mohammed V’s University, the ranking included universities from Nigeria, Morocco, Ethiopia, and Vietnam for the first time.
This is not the first time the University of Mohammed V placed amongst the top universities worldwide.
