Rabat – Algeria’s presidency is drawing another wave of criticism and sarcasm after sharing a doctored picture of the Le Point magazine’s cover for this week.
The doctored version features Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s photo on the magazine’s frontpage.
The actual Le Point cover features France’s President Emmanuel Macron along with the most prominent French politicians vying for the country’s next presidential elections. The actual cover reads: “Who will be the candidate of the Right?”

The Algerian government also changed cover’s caption, replacing it with the headline of the recent “exclusive interview” the Algerian president gave to Le Point.
In the interview, Tebboune lashed out at Morocco, smeared King Mohammed VI, and cuestioned the country’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.
He said there is “a break between Algeria and the monarch.” Refering to the US’ recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara: he said “How can you think of offering a monarch an entire territory, with all its population?”
He downplayed the US’ decision, claiming that it means “nothing.”
The photoshop scandal is not the first of its kind. In May, Algeria’s ambassador to Hungary, Ali Mokrani, photoshopped himself into a diplomatic gathering he did not actually attend.
The Algerian diplomat photoshoped Morocco’s ambassador Karima Kabbaj out of the meeting in order to find a spot for himself.
Kabbaj actually participated in the webinar in question, which discussed the potential of ACFTA and the development of economic relations between Africa and Europe.
Many on social media lashed out at the Algerian ambassador for going down that road.
