Rabat- The final draw of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 has placed the Moroccan futsal team in Group C along with Portugal, Thailand, and the Solomon Islands.

The draw ceremony for the competition took place on May 1 at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, in the presence of Spanish Futsal legend Kike.

The Atlas Lions secured their place in the World Cup by winning the 2020 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations.

The tournament will take place in Lithuania between September 12 and October 3, with Morocco’s first game scheduled for September 13 against the Solomon Islands.

After the Solomon Islands, the Moroccan team will face Thailand on September 16 and Europe’s champions Portugal on September 19.

The round of 16 is scheduled for September 22, 23, and 24.

The quarter-finals will take place on September 26 and 27, followed by the semifinals on September 29 and 30. The third-place playoff and the final will be held on October 3.

This will be Morocco’s third participation in the Futsal World Cup after Thailand 2012 and Colombia 2016.

The Moroccan team featured in Pot 4 of the draw, alongside Vietnam, the US, Uzbekistan, Angola, and Venezuela.

The Moroccan team has never passed the group stage of the Futsal World Cup. However, this coming tournament is expected to be different for the Moroccan team due to the quality the squad has shown this year.

On May 29, the Atlas Lions won the Arab Futsal Cup for the first time in history.

The team’s statistics in the competition, along with the experience the players gained in the last two World Cups, make the Moroccan futsal family dream of a big achievement in Lithuania.

The six groups of the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup are as follows:

Group A: Lithuania, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, and Costa Rica.

Group B: Uzbekistan, Guatemala, Russia, and Egypt.

Group C: Thailand, Portugal, Morocco, and the Solomon Islands.

Group D: Panama, Czech Republic, Vietnam, and Brazil.

Group E: Angola, Japan, Paraguay, and Spain.

Group F: Argentina, US, Serbia, and Iran.
