Join on Telegram Rabat – Beginning on February 1, 2020, WhatsApp will no longer service smartphones with outdated software. The move is designed to ensure that the app is secure for users.
Launched in 2009, WhatsApp is a popular messaging platform among smartphone users around the world and the most popular social media platform in Morocco.
WhatsApp stopped supporting Windows phone operating systems on January 1, 2020. Now, the app is set to target iPhone and Android users.
Come February, WhatsApp will only work on iPhones powered by iOS 9 or higher.
iPhone models that predate iOS 9 include iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. Owners of these models should update their device’s software or they will be temporarily excluded from WhatsApp services.
WhatsApp will permanently stop servicing iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 1.
Android versions 2.3.7 and older will no longer be able to create new WhatsApp accounts or reverify existing accounts.
Android users will need at least Android 2.3.3 to maintain WhatsApp access. However, most Android devices can be upgraded and will not be permanently impacted by the new regulations.
All smartphone users must be able to receive SMS or calls during the WhatsApp verification process. WhatsApp does not support WiFi-only devices.
WhatsApp is a free app that allows smartphone users to communicate using an internet connection or data rather than cell service or SMS. Sending text messages can rack up charges for users who do not have a free text-messaging phone plan, making internet-based communication an attractive option.
WhatsApp also makes international messaging and calling free for smartphone users.
Although some smartphones have their own internet messaging services, such as Apple’s iMessage, these services limit internet-based communication between those who have the same brand of smartphone. WhatsApp transcends this gap and facilitates internet-based communication between users of all smartphones.
