Rabat – In a statement to Morocco World News, the deputy of the wali (governor) of the police of Casablanca Hamid Bahri said on Tuesday, December 31 that the DGSN has taken proactive security measures for the whole month of December by mobilizing extra police units.

“The security measures will reach their peak today through dispatching additional policemen and special units,” Bahri added.

“The special units have very developed weapons and essential logistic equipment,” he pointed out.

The deputy went on to say that the mass deployment of police elements is needed “to face the challenges that all communities face, which is the terrorist challenges.”

“You’re going to find us this night monitoring people’s festivities, nationals, and foreigners, in a secure and smooth way to show the citizens who are not concerned by the festivities what the DGSN has in terms of logistic equipment and human assets to protect them when needed.”

In Casablanca alone, more than 3,000 policemen will be on the streets tonight.

Similar security measures are undertaken in other popular Moroccan cities.

The DGSN is strengthening its police presence particularly in Anfa, Hay El Hassani, and Ain Sebaa.

In addition to the national police, the large security reinforcements will include other security corps to watch over embassies, consulates, restaurants, nightclubs, train stations, and airports.

Checkpoints have also been set at the entrance of major cities that experience the biggest flows of traffic.
