Rabat – Tangier Police, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), on Monday, May 6, arrested two girls for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

The police arrested the two women at the Tangier bus station as they were attempting to leave the city for Casablanca.

The search operation resulted in the confiscation of 10,000 tablets of ecstasy and several mobile phones.

Police put the suspects in custody for further investigation to determine the origin of the psychotropic tablets and to arrest other suspects involved in the operation.

Throughout the year, Morocco’s security halted hundreds of suspects for their involvement in drug trafficking.

In April, the Tangier city police arrested four suspects for possession of 30,000 ecstasy pills and large sums of cash in local currency.

In its annual review, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced that police seized 1.65 tons of cocaine, over 1.3 million psychotropic and ecstasy pills (up 43 percent over 2017), 52 tons of cannabis resin, and 693 kilograms of cannabis in 2018.
