The phrase and the video clip it came from have swept over Facebook as social media users criticize the government’s decision to stay on Daylight Saving Time.

The phrase, roughly translated from Arabic as “You’re losing it, Ahmaddi,” comes from a scene in the 1998 Moroccan movie “Pigeon Swarm.” Social media users have shared a clip of the scene to express negative opinions on various issues. In the movie scene, actor Nourddine Bakr warns his friend, played by actor Rachid El-Wali, by repeating the phrase, “You’re losing it, Ahmmadi.”

Some have simply shared the plain clip or the phrase by itself. But others have used it to send messages to the Moroccan government and Head of Government Saad Eddine El Othmani, particularly after the government’s last-minute decision to keep Morocco on Daylight Summer Time (GMT+1) year-round.

Social media users have shared the clip as if Nourddine Bakr is talking directly to El Othmani, showing the disappointment of some citizens in the government.

“Governments doesn’t need political think tanks or polling stations to conduct surveys; communicators often don’t answer a phone call,” one Facebook activist said. Politicians can simply visit Facebook to see Moroccans’ resentment and get a real understanding of the phrase “You’re losing it, Ahmmadi,” the activist asserted.
