Rabat – The Qatari government has reacted to the publication of a fake picture in which King Mohammed VI appears lending his clear support for Qatar.

The director of the government communication office in Qatar, Sheikh Saif bin Ahmad Al Thani, lamented the photomontage in which His Majesty King Mohammed VI is wearing a scarf during a visit to Doha, noting that an investigation will be opened to uncover the author of the photoshop.

In a statement released late on Tuesday, the director of the government communication office said that that the author of this “unacceptable” act will not achieve his goals consisting in sabotaging King Mohammed VI’s visit to Qatar.

The Qatari official promised that an “investigation will be opened to discover the identity of the party that seeks to provoke the public opinion or to attack the symbols of States.

At the same time, he lamented that publication of fake news and fake pictures by some agencies and on social networks has recently increased.

The Qatari official noted that King Mohammed VI’s visit to the State of Qatar has “been a success at all levels and has contributed to the deepening and development of fraternal relations between the two countries.”

In the early hours of Tuesday, thousands of social media users started posting a picture a fake picture of King Mohammed in which he holds a banner that reads “You have the world, we have Tamim [Emir of Qatar].”

A couple of hours later, a member of the Royal cabinet denied that the Moroccan monarch has taken such picture. Speaking to Moroccan news outlet Le360, King Mohammed VI’s adviser, Yassine Zenagui, said the picture was a “grotesque photohop.”
