Rabat – The well-known French-Moroccan comedian and actor Gad Elmaleh has just finished his first comedy tour in Australia.
Elmaleh, one of the most prominent comedy figures in the French-speaking world, has recently set his eyes on making a name for himself in English-speaking countries.
“Oh My Gad,” his first comedy show in English, was well received in Australia after a previous success in the United States, where Elmaleh has moved in pursuit of a career in stand-up comedy.
The artist performed on Monday and Tuesday in Sydney as part of the Just for Laughs comedy festival in the City Recital Hall.
On his first appearance on Australian TV, Elmaleh said, “I love my fans in France but now I want to open to the world and step out of my comfort zone. It’s a very interesting challenge.”
The stand-up comedian and actor has starred in several feature films, including “Coco,”“Priceless,” and “La Doublure.” He was voted the “funniest person” in France and was named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by France’s Minister and Culture and Knight of the National Order of Quebec.
In 2015, Elmaleh moved to New York City, embarking on an English-language national tour across the US. He first appeared in in Joe’s Pub in December following multiple shows in the fall.
The comedian appears to have enjoyed his mid-career migration.
“What’s great about comedy in English is that you get to travel, to meet other comedians from other countries,” the Casablanca native humorist told Australian TV.
