Rabat – Head of Government Saad Eddine El Othmani has affirmed that his cabinet is closely following the progress of development projects launched in different regions of the country.

Speaking during the weekly government council meeting, El Othmani praised the launch by some ministers of a program to check on the progress of projects in different regions, every one or two weeks. He also applauded the ministerial delegation that recently visited Laayoune to follow up with projects in Western Sahara.

El Othmani told his ministers that a unit at the government presidency would be set up in order to monitor these projects, especially those launched in remote areas.

The government head also hailed King Mohammed VI’s decision to send a supply of humanitarian aid to help Bangladesh accommodate the massive influx of Rohingya refugees escaping prosecution in Myanmar.

El Othmani said the action is a true example of Moroccan and Muslim solidarity.

The issue of regional development has been at the heart of national debate during the protests in Rif region. The government was put under pressure to speed up the realization of projects in the northern region, in order to meet the social and economic demands of the local population.

Protests stretched to other regions in Morocco, where local resident shared the Rif protesters’ feelings of having been marginalized and neglected by the central government.
