Rabat – 12 people, including a baby, were killed and 39 more sustained injuries when their coach overturned on a road near Khenifra in central Morocco.
The coach overturned on national road 8, between Fez and Marrakech, outside the commune of Ait Ishal in the Khenifra region.
Having spoken to local officials, press agency MAP has reported that the wounded, 20 of whom have been injured seriously, have been transferred to the Khenifra’s hospital. The deceased have been taken to the hospital’s morgue.
42 people died in September 2012 when a coach fell down a 150-metre-deep ravine, south of Marrakech.
Morocco launched a national road safety strategy in 2016 with the aim of halving all road accidents by 2025. At present, around 3,500 people are killed in road accidents every year in Morocco.
