Rabat – FIFA has spoken: the next World Cup will be hosted in either America, Africa, or Oceania. Morocco will have to replace Spain in its joint bid if it wants to host the 2026 World Cup.

With the current rotation, North America and Africa are due next to host the international tournament, after Brazil in 2014, Russia in 2018, and Qatar in 2022, representing South America, Europe, and Asia, respectively.

This means that the joint Morocco-Spain bid will not be approved if it is formally presented to the council.

Africa last featured a World Cup in 2010 in South Africa, while North America last hosted in 1994 in the United States. Oceania has never hosted a World Cup and does not seem interested in doing so at the time.

The Kingdom has another option, as a joint bid with Cote D’Ivoire could still be on the table.

Due to the North American request for an expedited process, the window on a Moroccan bid is closing rapidly, as they have only until August to formally submit their proposal.

At this time the joint USA-Mexico-Canada bid is the only bid currently presented, and might be the only bid for the committee to rule on in August.
