Rabat – The Moroccan Red City, Marrakech, has secured a prominent position as the second top remote working destination in Africa for the year 2023, according to a recent study by Resume.io.
The report said that Marrakech offers a “consistent but average internet connection, a handful of bustling co-working spaces, and vibrant street arts,” the perfect combination for many professionals as the world embraces the flexibility of remote work.
With more than 4,400 geotagged Instagram posts under the #digitalnomad hashtag, the Moroccan city has solidified its position as an attractive location for professionals looking to balance work with cultural exploration.
Marrakech was not the only Moroccan city featured in the report, as the coastal city of Agadir ranked as the continent’s sixth top remote working destination, with more than 1,500 Instagram posts.
Resume.io conducted the survey using a sample of 25,976 Instagram posts with the #digitalnomad hashtag to determine the most popular remote working destinations in Africa.
South Africa’s capital Cape Town led the ranking as the most popular remote working destination in Africa with over 9,400 geotagged Instagram posts under the hashtag.

“Cape Town allows us to live a 5-star lifestyle on a 3-star budget,” said a travel blogger as quoted by the report, highlighting the cities’ WiFi cafes and “fancy spots” which are suitable for remote work.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s Nairobi ranked in the third spot, followed by Egypt’s Luxor and Hurghada in the fourth and fifth spots respectively.
Two other Egyptian cities appeared in the report, with Dahab ranking seventh and Cairo coming in tenth position.
Meanwhile, Senegal’s Dakar ranked in the eighth spot, followed by the Algerian capital Algiers in the ninth position.
The report indicated that the world continues to embrace the remote work revolution, underlining that the digital nomad culture is “reinventing itself in 2023 after periods of global lockdown.”
