Rabat – The Moroccan Union of the Ultras held sit-ins in several cities requesting the Ministry of Interior to repeal their decision to prohibit the activities of the football fan groups.

Several groups of the Moroccan Union of Ultras held sit-ins on the evening of February 16, with a united slogan: “It is not out of fear that we are peaceful, but out of respect for the interest of the country”.

For months, the groups have been demanding a reversal of the decision of the Ministry of Interior prohibiting the activities of the ultras in the kingdom.

In Casablanca, the Ultras “Eagles” of the football team Raja chose the area around the Mohammed V complex to demonstrate, holding banners and chanting songs and slogans to express anger their against the decision of the Ministry.

In Fez, Fatal Tigers, a group of ultra supporters from the Moghreb in Fez (MAS), chose to protest in front of the police headquarters with a long banner in yellow and black.

The ban on the activities of the ultras goes back to April 2016, when the Ministry of Interior took the decision after the acts of violence between the Green Boys and the Eagles, two Raja ultras groups, on March 19, 2016 at the Mohammed V complex which resulted in the deaths of three young fans.

Following this decision, the Moroccan Ultras groups united in a movement and decided to begin a boycott of national championship matches since the beginning of the 2016/2017 season.
