Rabat – Moroccan athlete Soufiane El Bakkali secured another resounding victory in the highly competitive 3,000m steeplechase in the esteemed Silesia Meeting held in Poland on Sunday, as part of the renowned Diamond League series.
As the current reigning world and Olympic champion, El Bakkali’s latest win further cements his position as a world-class athlete. Clocking an impressive time of 8:03.16, he left his competitors trailing.
The Moroccan athlete won against renowned Kenyan athletes Abraham Kibiwot and Leonard Kipkemoi Bett.
His commanding performance left Kibiwot and Bett struggling to keep up, crossing the finish line with respective times of 8:08.03 and 8:09.45.
Since September 2021, El Bakkali has remained undefeated, extending his impressive winning streak to an astonishing length. The Moroccan athlete’s unwavering success continues to captivate fans and astound fellow competitors, firmly establishing him as one of the greatest athletes in the discipline.
In May, El Bakkali celebrated securing the World’s Best Performance (WBP) of the year. Clocking an impressive time of 7:56. 68 milliseconds, El Bakkali not only surpassed his own meeting record set in the previous year but also etched his name as the eighth-best performer in the event’s history.
His exceptional achievement overshadowed the performances of Ethiopia’s Getnet Wale and Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot.
El Bakkali’s recent achievement adds to his already impressive track record. In July 2022, he claimed the title of world champion in the 3000m steeplechase at the World Athletics Championship. Additionally, he made history in 2021 by becoming the first Moroccan athlete to win a gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
