Rabat – A Moroccan passenger who was traveling with her husband gave birth aboard a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Chicago on September 27.
A doctor on board the flight helped the Moroccan passenger with the delivery when her water broke at 30,000 feet, according to New York travel website Travel + Leisure.
The travel website quoted the airline, emphasizing that the cabin crew and doctor contributed to the woman’s safe delivery.
New Orleans newspaper, Nola, reported that Dr. Feridun Kubilay, a permanent US resident, has delayed his flight back to the US by a week.
The Dr. had taken the same flight as the Moroccan woman and assisted her in delivering her child.
Dr. Kubilay works as a part-time neurosurgeon in Turkey.
“I was so happy everything was OK,” Kubilay told Nola.
A medical team was waiting for the woman and her baby at Chicago’s airport.
Turkish Airlines told Travel + Leisure that the baby’s family named him Mehdi.
Several similar circumstances happened aboard hundreds of airlines.
In October 2019, a passenger gave birth to a baby girl in a Royal Air Maroc flight from Casablanca to New York.
The passenger received assistance from the cabin chief and flight crew.
