Berlin – Ten to fifteen train passengers were attacked Monday night in an axe attack by a 17-year-old Afghan asylum seeker near Würtzbourg, northern Bavaria, according to German officials.

The attacker was shot dead by police, Bavaria’s interior minister, Joachim Herrmann, said.

Two of the victims of the attack are in a critical condition, underlined Hermann. Fourteen other passengers were reportedly in a state of shock and receiving treatment by specialists.

Herrmann added that investigators raiding his room also found a hand-painted Isis flag.

Isis claimed responsibility in a statement on its Amaq news agency on Tuesday morning.
