Join on Telegram Rabat – Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Front is leading the first round of French regional elections, French media said on Sunday.
Sunday’s elections are the last test before the presidential elections scheduled to take place in April 2017.
The anti-immigrant and anti-euro party obtained between 27 and 30 percent of votes according to AFP, a score that is likely to enable it to win several key regions.
The party, headed by Marine Le Pen and her niece Marion Marechal Le Pen, obtained 40 per cent of votes in the north and southeast regions according to Reuters.
The National From came ahead of Nicolas Sarkozy’s conservative party and its allies, who secured 27 of votes and President Francois Hollande’s Socialist Party and its allies, who obtained 22.7 percent.
The fate of the regional elections will be decided in the run-off scheduled to take place next Sunday.
