Tunis, January 14, 2012 (MAP)

Morocco has made the democratic choice a strategic option since its independence, worked to consolidate it with the help of lively forces through pluralism as well as individual and public freedoms, said on Saturday in Tunis Moroccan House of Representatives Speaker, Karim Ghellab.

The Kingdom seeks to promote the democratic process under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI who strengthened this option since his enthronement, said. Ghellab in a speech on the occasion of the festivities of the first anniversary of the Tunisian revolution, recalling, in this respect, the adoption of the new constitution and the holding of elections qualified by everybody as “fair and transparent.”

Ghellab also welcomed the revolution’s achievements in Tunisia in favor “of authentic Tunisian people,” stressing “Morocco’s confidence, King, government, people and forces, in the maturity of the national leadership after the Glorious Revolution in Tunisia and in its ability to meet the challenges to make Tunisia a model in the construction, modernization and implementation of economic and social prosperity.”

The Speaker also emphasized the provision of Morocco to move forward to promote joint action in order to build the great Arab Maghreb serving the Maghreb peoples.

The Maghreb project “is not today a strategic option but a strategic necessity to achieve development of the Maghreb countries,” he said, noting that studies conducted by specialized international organizations claim that the construction of the Great Maghreb is able to increase GDP by two percentage points in those countries.
