Rabat – Morocco have received encouraging news on Noussair Mazraoui ahead of their opening match against Brazil in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Atlas Lions full-back was forced to leave the pitch during Morocco’s 1-1 friendly draw against Norway on Sunday, June 7, after taking a knock to his shoulder.
His early exit caused concern, especially with Morocco preparing to start their World Cup campaign against Brazil on June 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
However, the first signs are positive. According to beIN Sports, Mazraoui’s injury is not serious, and the Manchester United defender is expected to return to group training in the coming days.
At this stage, his participation against Brazil does not appear to be seriously threatened.
Mazraoui is one of the most experienced players in the squad and remains a key piece in the national team’s defensive structure.
His ability to play as a full-back on both sides gives the coaching staff more options, while his calmness on the ball helps Morocco build play under pressure.
Against a team like Brazil, Morocco will need players who can defend well, stay focused, and handle one-on-one situations.
Mazraoui’s experience at the highest level with clubs like Ajax, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United makes him valuable in that kind of match.
Ezzalzouli and Talbi’s situation
The situation is less clear for Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. The winger also left the Norway match before halftime after suffering a knee injury.
He is expected to undergo an MRI on Tuesday, which should reveal the exact nature of the problem and how long he could be out. His reaction after leaving the pitch raised concern among Moroccan fans.
Meanwhile, there is better news regarding Chemsdine Talbi. The Sunderland winger arrived at the national team camp with slight physical discomfort, but he has since returned to normal training with the group.
Nayef Aguerd remains another case to watch. The central defender has been away from competition after surgery related to a long-standing pubalgia issue.
His lack of recent match rhythm continues to raise questions about his fitness before the tournament.
