Rabat – A man accused of raping a 3-year-old girl in Casablanca was sentenced to only two months in prison.
According to Al Ahdath Al Maghribia in its October 8 publication, following a police investigation and reports from a hospital and medical examiner, it was confirmed that a 55-year-old man raped a 3-year-old infant.
The tragic event happened in early July 2015 when the little girl was playing with her 1-year-old sister and her 7-year-old cousin outside of their home in Oulfa, a neighborhood in Casablanca, Morocco’s economic capital.
The girl was allegedly abducted from outside her front door by the man with whom she disappeared for just a few minutes. At her return, the girl’s aunt noticed her face was bruised but thought she had suffered an accident while playing.
The victim kept quiet about the truth of the incident, and did not tell her aunt she had been molested. Instead told her she had gone to play with her “uncle”, a man who managed the sewing store at the corner.
However, according to the same source “later, when her mother was changing her diapers, she discovered other bruises on the little girl’s thighs, and blood in her diaper.” The victim was questioned by her mother and she finally confessed the horrible incident.
The young victim was taken by her mother to Hay Hassani Hospital and to Polyclinic CNSS, but they both refused her admission. The 3-year-old was finally admitted to Abderrahim Harouchi Children’s Hospital next to the Ibn Rushd Hospital, which officially confirmed the rape.
“The hospital then immediately wrote three letters. The first to the medical examiner, the second to social services, and the third to the attention of a psychologist,” noted the publication.
Following a police investigation and the forensic evidence, the perpetrator, 55, father of three children, was arrested and sentenced to two months in jail.
The same source said, “A second session is scheduled for the 13th of this month. But the family of the victim fears that the rapist will be released, especially since they do not have an appointed lawyer for lack of financial means.”
