Rabat – The Moroccan women’s team defeated its French counterpart with a 6-0 score in the quarter-finals of the World Eightball Pool Federation (WEPF 2023) championship, organized by the World Billiards Federation in the Moroccan city of Agadir from July 2-12.

The Moroccan national team managed on July 7 to settle the match nine minutes before the end, with an excellent performance in the fifth game, thus qualifying to the semi-finals.

“We had a lot of fun. We won 6-0; it’s unusual. We lost to France before, but we won today. It’s incredible,” said Mariam El Alami, a member of the Moroccan national team.

The prestigious 2023 WEPF Championships included top 8-ball pool players from around the world who competed for individual and team world titles. The entire event was broadcast live on ultimatepool.tv.

Following its impressive defeat of France, however, the Moroccan team did not manage to qualify for the final as  they were defeated by their Welsh counterpart on July 9.

This encouraging tournament performance from the Moroccan women’s team comes nearly a decade after their male counterparts’ historic triumph in England.

Morocco’s men’s team managed to win the Billiards and Snooker World Cup in England in 2014, becoming the first Arab and African team to attain this achievement.

After defeating the Australian team in the semi-final match, Morocco’s male team went on to defeat the hosting England team with a thumping 8-4 scoreline.
