Geneva – May 30, 2011 (MAP) –
Morocco’s permanent representative to the UN Office in Generva, Ambassador Omar Hilale, said that the Moroccan deep reforms are not the fruit of any spring, but a strategic choice initiated since the nineties.
Speaking on Monday at the opening of the UNHRC’s 17th session, Hilale noted that the MENA region includes very different social, economic and political realities, despite noticeable similarities, adding that the processes of democtratic openess and the dynamic of reforms differ from one country to another.
The particularity of the Moroccan case resides in the fact that the in-depth and comprehensive reforms carried out by the country are neither linked to a mutating regional context, nor the fruit of any spring, he said.
They also stem from irreversible democratic commitments and genuine and voluntary-based national political choices in favour of building a modern society that is democratic and respectful of human rights and the cultural specificities of the Kingdom’s different regions, he stressed.
The Moroccan diplomat added that the dynamic of political reforms was initiated in the Kingdom since early nineties with the full participation of all political forces and civil society stakeholders.
