Expatriates’ remittances hike 7.8% in 2010

Rabat, 15 June 2011 (MAP)

Remittances by Moroccans living abroad increased 7.8% to hit 54.10 billion dirhams in 2010 up from 50.21 in 2009, Delegate Minister in charge of the Moroccan Community Living Abroad, Mohamed Ameur said on Tuesday.

Speaking before the Government Council, the Minister recalled that the remittances increased from 47 billion dirhams in 2006 to 55 billion dirhams in 2007.

Remittances from France rose 9.4% in 2010 to stand at 22.13 billion dirhams, compared to 20.22 billion dirhams  in 2009.

Following the same rising trend, remittances from the US reached 2.95 billion dirhams in 2010, that is a 17.4% increase.

On the other hand, remittances from Moroccans living in Spain, Italy, Germany and Great Britain posted a decrease of 8.4%, 10.1%, 9.9% and 7.4% respectively.
