Paris, February 28, 2012 (MAP)

The Global Forum of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), dedicated to defining the new strategy of this group of 34 industrialized countries, opens Tuesday in Paris with the participation of Morocco.

Represented by the High Commissioner for Planning, Ahmed Lahlimi Alami, the Kingdom is associated to this forum with a view to helping shape the future strategy of the OECD and to “identifying priorities and best practices in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of public spending”.

Lahlimi Alami will attend on Wednesday a roundtable on  “Conclusions and prospects”, where he will defend a sustainable action against poverty and inequality, including the need to take into account distribution policies in any development strategy, he told MAP.

Launched in 2006 to promote dialogue between the governments of OECD member countries, non-member countries, the private sector and civil society, the Forum will offer participants a “unique opportunity” to share their points of view on priorities for the future action of the organization.

On the sidelines of the forum, a high-level meeting is scheduled on Thursday to consult with countries non members of the organization on the Organization’s new strategy and share experiences in creating and implementing national development strategies.

This meeting will bring together forty ministers and will be co-chaired by Morocco in recognition of its work within the committee of OECD Development Center which aims to promote comparative research development and political dialogue on global governance among member countries of the organization and developing and emerging countries.

The Minister of General Affairs and Governance, Najib Boulif, will co-chair the morning session of this meeting, while Lahlimi will co-chair the afternoon session.

On the eve of the meeting, Boulif participates in a panel discussion on mobilizing the private sector in “a changing world” which intends to enrich discussions at the high-level meeting on National development strategies and the OECD Strategy, currently under preparation.

The Moroccan private sector will be represented in the Forum by Moulay Hafid Elalamy, a holding Chief Executive, specializing in various fields including insurance and teleservices.
