BEIJING, March 21, 2012 (AFP)
China’s Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi called Wednesday for an early resolution to the Syrian crisis during talks with his Egyptian counterpart in Beijing, the ministry said in a statement.
China and Russia have twice used their powers as permanent Security Council members to veto resolutions on Syria, saying they were unbalanced and only
sought regime change.
Under pressure from Western powers, China this month unveiled a six-point plan calling for an immediate end to the deadly conflict and for dialogue
between President Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the opposition.
On Wednesday, Yang held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Amr, the ministry statement said, adding that the two agreed to support the
mediation efforts of joint UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Anan.
