Cairo, April 25, 2012 (MAP)

Morocco lived the Arab Spring through a real revolution launched by King Mohammed VI and supported by the Moroccan people, head of the government Abdelilah Benkirane said.

“We cannot compare the situation in Morocco with that in some Arab countries, which was marked by persecution, repression and curbing press freedom and political activities,” he told on Wednesday Egyptian paper “Al Ahram”.

He recalled the historic speech by the King on March 2011, wherein the sovereign announced the launch of a series of major political reforms that led to the adoption of the new constitution which gives large prerogatives to the government and upholds the principles of accountability and the separation of powers.

He added that these reforms, which reflect the monarch’s wisdom, insight and interactivity with the Arab Spring, came with a new momentum aimed at introducing in-depth changes in the country at all levels.

On the experience of PJD as a ruling party, he said that Morocco entered a new phase in its political history, adding that the elected government came to establish new relations and correct misunderstandings between the administration and citizens.

The top official voiced concern over the existence of attempts to thwart this experience.

He underlined that the government program was elaborated to resolve political issues which are behind other problems related to justice and transparency, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and promoting the concept of “the administration in the service of citizens”, in addition to the principles of integrity and good governance.
