RABAT, April 13, 2012 (MAP)

King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolence and sympathy to the daughter of the late Ahmed Benbella, former Algerian president, who died on Wednesday in Algiers.

“In these depressing circumstances, We express to you, and through you to members of your honorable family and all relatives of the deceased, Our sincere condolences and feelings of compassion and sympathy following the tragic loss,” said the royal message to Mehdia Benbella.

“We feel with you the cruelty of the loss that did not affect only your honorable family and the Algerian people, who lost in him a leader of the Algerian nationalist movement and the first president of an independent state, but it also affected Morocco, which lost in him a great activist with whom it had strong ties of solidarity and consideration, and a Maghreb citizen committed to the spirit of brotherhood and defending the interests of the Arab nation,” said the message.
