Several activists representing a number of human rights associations handed, on Tuesday in Rabat, a letter to Austria’s Ambassador denouncing the incitement of racial hatred expressed in anti-Moroccan electoral campaign placards in Innsbruck by the far-right party, FPO.
The letter, which was handed following a sit-in staged in front of the Austrian Embassy in Rabat, described the FPO act as “racist” and discriminatory against the Moroccans living in Austria.
The protesters denounced as “despicable” the anti-Moroccan slogans in the FPO electoral campaign posters which aim only at wining votes by violating human rights.
The FPO used placards with slogans saying “Love of your home country instead of Moroccan thieves.”
The Moroccan government decided to file a lawsuit against the FPO. In this respect, Morocco’s Embassy in Vienna was instructed to take legal and administrative measures.
On Friday, the Innsbruck prosecutor opened an investigation for incitement of racial hatred expressed in the FPO placards.
Morocco’s foreign Ministry said in a statement that Youssef Amrani, Minister Delegate to the Foreign Minister, summoned the Austrian ambassador in Rabat to express both the indignation of Morocco and its denunciation of this xenophobic and defamatory act against the Moroccan citizens living in this country EU country.
