Morocco’s flag air carrier Royal Air Maroc announced the resumption of Casablanca-Moscow direct flights on May 2, after they had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
The round trip will start from MAD 7,000 ($696), and will operate twice a week until the end of the summer season.
Outbound flights will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while returning flights will be on Wednesdays and Fridays. The flights will last about a little over six hours.
The resumption of Casablanca-Moscow flights will put an end to the ordeal of many Moroccan nationals residing in Russia.
During the war outbreak between Russia and Ukraine, Moroccan nationals in Russia had no choice but to transit through other airports such as Istanbul’s international airport.
The flights will also be beneficial to Russians residing in or considering a move to Morocco and Africa.
At the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Morocco urged citizens not to travel to Ukraine, expressing its commitment to repatriate stranded Moroccans.
“The highest number of Moroccan arrivals was recorded between February 26 and March 3, with a peak of 1,988 Moroccans leaving Ukraine on February 28 through Slovak, Polish, Romanian, and Hungarian borders,” a government source told Morocco World News (MWN) last year.
