Rabat – The 17th annual Jazz Festival of Chellah in Rabat will be held from June 13 through 17, to celebrate the blending and mixing of various music experiments of rhythms and genres across the Mediterranean.

The event will bring together different Moroccan and European artists and musicians.

The event’s organizers focused on the diversification of the artistic and cultural meetings of the festival, which provided a platform for the artist to take jazz beyond the strict techniques in the genre, into a varied blending mixture of various musical trends – producing a new form of jazz.

The opening ceremony of the festival will be a Moroccan-Greek mixture evening represented by the Greek band Greg Costas Theodoro.  The band’s jazz music is considered a blend between Mediterranean and Balkan music and the Moroccan band, Simo Bouazzaoui, which excels in Flamenco and Spanish music.

The festival’s organizers are introducing it as a forum for dialogue between the North and the South, is an opportunity to experiment with forms of mixing musical genres, such as the blend between Pascal Schumacher and Rabab Vision, the Belgian band Slang, Yassir Rami (Oud player who is influenced by classical Turkish, Iraqi, Adalusian Arabic, Hassania and Malhoun music) and the Persian musician Antoine Morino who plays in several bands, the Spanish Jazz band De Galea Valle which uses the harp in its Catalan Jazz music will meet with the music of the Moroccan Oud Player Said Chraibi.

The closing ceremony will keep the same cultural cooperation pace which will be manifested through evening duets between the Saxophone player Andie Seppar and the pianist Jean-Marie Machado along with the singers Lama’alam Hamid Lqasri and Karim Ziyad.
