Istanbul, May 28, 2012 (MAP)

Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani said that the Arab countries are consulting with each other to agree on a response to the massacre perpetrated by the forces of Syrian president Bachar Al Assad in the city of Houla, killing 100 people, including 32 children.

“Arab foreign affairs ministers are examining the possibility of holding an extraordinary meeting to discuss the new developments of the situation in Syria,” El Otmani told Turkish news agency Anatolia.

He said that Morocco is consulting with several Arab countries to examine a response to the Houla massacre, the news agency said on its website.

This response will be either via an Arab initiative or within the framework of the UNSC to implement the plan of Kofi Annan, emissary of the Arab League and the UN for Syria, which calls for stopping violence by all parties, withdrawing forces and weapons from Syrian cities, deploying international observers, freeing political prisoners and establishing a dialogue between the government and the opposition, Anatolia said quoting El Otmani.

Morocco strongly denounced the massacre in the Syrian town of Houla which left many innocent victims including children and called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting civilians.
