Morocco’s relations with all countries, including Algeria, are based on goodwill, Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani said on Thursday in Rabat.
“Morocco relies, in its international relations whether with Algeria or with other countries, on goodwill to develop bilateral cooperation,” the minister said before the Foreign Affairs, National Defense and Islamic and Maghreb Affairs committee at the house of representatives.
He recalled his recent visit to Algeria, noting that Morocco accomplished so much in the eastern region without having any concern over the opening of borders.
He said that Morocco launched major initiatives to spur the Maghreb and is ready to take part in the upcoming summit of the Arab Maghreb Union, slated in October in Tunisia.
“We hope that this summit will be well prepared to open new cooperation prospects for the five Maghreb countries,” he said.
The minister said he is worried over the dangerous security threats in the Sahel-Saharan region, underlining the pioneer role of Morocco in raising awareness of the dangers that threaten security and world peace.
He recalled the instructions by King Mohammed VI to send humanitarian aid to Mauritania, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso to help them face the humanitarian crisis triggered by the latest events in Mali.
He said that Morocco intends to draw attention to these security challenges during the next ministerial meeting of the Sahel-Saharan countries in Rabat.
On Moroccan-Spanish relations, the Minister said that Morocco is determined to reinforce cooperation with Madrid and open an in-depth and serious dialogue to resolve all matters of disagreement, adding that the next meeting of the Morocco-Spanish joint committee (slated September in Rabat) will contribute to further developing bilateral cooperation.
