The brave reforms undertaken by Morocco under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and the positive reaction by the people and the elite made the Moroccan diplomacy bolder regionally and internationally, Foreign Minister Saad-Eddine El Otmani said on Wednesday.
He told Arabic-speaking daily “Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki” that the Arab Spring showed that the southern peoples are capable of conducting changes, contrary to the conceptions of the northern far right.
On the Syrian crisis, the minister recalled that Morocco is paying especial attention to this crisis, given its trailblazing regional role as a member of the Arab League and a non permanent member of the UNSC, and its leading role in terms of political reforms in the region.
The Kingdom is working jointly with other Arab countries to stop violence prejudicial to the Syrian people, and support the Arab League’s initiative and defend it before the international community, he said.
Morocco, a main actor in this issue, has fully played the role entrusted to it regarding this crisis and has won the respect of its partners, he added, noting that the Kingdom will continue its efforts until the Syrians achieve their political demands.
Violence is still going on in Syria despite all initiatives made for over a year now with the contribution of the Arab League, he said, underlining that the Syrian authorities should shoulder their responsibility and withdraw their army to initiate a political solution as soon as possible.
