Casablanca – Security has been tightened at the Moroccan Algerian borders last Thursday after 19 Algerian citizens tried to cross the border illegally, According to the daily Al Massae.
The Algerian citizens were arrested at the Moroccan side of the joint borders with Algeria near Kees River in Saidia. They were accused of illegal immigration and unauthorized entry to the Moroccan territory.
A group of Algerian scoots who were on an excursion in the border area were released afterwards. Outraged, the Algerian authorities consider the arrest of their citizens as an act of provocation.
They argue that Algerian citizens do not react in the same way to the entry of Moroccans to its territory by mistake. Since the incident, Moroccan authorities have been carrying out intensive security control around the borders area, as well as transit points to avert any attempts of illegal immigration.
