Today, “Facebook” is the fantastic phenomenon that constantly drags our attention. This social public sphere extensively proved its existence with regards to different social classes- maybe due to the facilities it provides to its admirers. Facebook is a galaxy of freedom where its stars can have independent and quick access to information.
The original flowering of the Facebook movement resulted from the frequent interest of people to express freely their viewpoints. In the past, people were unable to share ideas and opinions9 with their colleagues and friends; such outlet was almost non-existent. This perhaps can be attributed to the dominance of certain repressive political regimes during important periods of time.
But today things have changed; there is a shift towards demanding more liberty, and showing more interest in securing basic human rights and reaching democracy. On Facebook, all people are equal and have the right to express their feelings without limits. Facebook, therefore, becomes the center to foster these transparent and accountable ideas.
Unsurprisingly, Facebook is a space of overacted ‘philosophers’. Naturally, people can’t plunge themselves in an experience which is out of their spiritual and moral interest. For example, some people are addicted to reading and writing while others enjoy listening and speaking.
Facebook, however, is a responsive sphere to all these preferences. It is the reason why all segments of society are caught and are tempted into spending so much time Facebooking. Every individual tries to accumulate as much “like” as possible to what pages he/she creates or posts. The content of the post itself can say a lot about the person; it could reflect his/her inclination and how their personal profile is frequently shaped. In this same vein, the objective behind such posting and sharing is to convince a wide audience to accept and believe in one’s ideology.
Facebook users, consequently, strive to find out wise and reasonable outcomes. As I have personally realized, the majority of posts are a kind of advice and exhortation, wisdom, and lessons which mirror the ‘philosopher’ thinking. Facebook philosophers, indeed, seek out emotional intelligence as the sole way to fascinate a larger audience.
But how these posts are credibly truthful?
It is, undoubtedly, recognized that Facebook boosts plagiarism. People share articles, idiomatic expressions and pictures without acknowledging where they get them from, because they have no one to fear who can pursue the reserved copyrights. This makes matters worse and increases media illiteracy. It is difficult for a layman to filter every shared post, which can be deceived, especially in a time where the bulk of products are thrown to his/her face-book in a single minute.
Obviously, Facebook outcome is the exertion of certain ideologies on people generally and on children particularly. Children are not mature enough to criticize and reject irrational or taboo issues that refer to different aspects of life, simply because they are not being supervised and are easy to be misled.
Another aspect which may stir our curiosity to probe Facebook curse is addiction.
Millions of people use Facebook on a daily basis for the above mentioned matters. Everyone has friends on Facebook with whom they share opinions, news and videos…etc. People’s curiosity may push them to entertain themselves for a few times by watching interesting videos or by sharing fascinating posts. The process can be held for another leisure time, which later on becomes part of one’s scheduled life. This, little by little, negatively influences media illiterates who might ultimately neglect performing important duties. Facebook, irrespective of how much benefits it offers, increases the gap among people; it victimizes the ignorant and assists the educated.
