Peru is among the first countries to work for the respect of the sovereignty of Morocco, visiting chair of the Peru-Morocco parliamentary friendship group at the Peruvian congress, Rolando Reategui Flores said Monday.
During a press briefing following a meeting with Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Saad Dine el Otmani, the Peruvian lawmaker recalled the withdrawal of his countries recognition of the so-called SADR in 1996.
Underlining the “harmonious relations between Morocco and Peru,” Flores, who is leading a delegation of MPs in a visit to Morocco, said his mission “is working for further commitment of Peru in deepening these relations.”
Relations between the two countries date back to 1949. Next year will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between them.
The visit aims to consolidate bilateral relations, especially by signing a free-trade agreement, Flores said.
Morocco’s Foreign Minister said the tour enabled the Peruvian delegation to meet with Moroccan peers, underlining the existence of a “shared political will to develop relations in their political, economic and cultural aspects.” He also hailed the “positive approach” of the Peruvian MP towards the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity.
