The U.S. State Department announced the opening of the 2014 Diversity Visa Program (DV-2014) on Tuesday October 02, 2012.
In a press conference held in “Dar America” on Friday Oct 11, Janice Chill, the responsible for Visa Section in U.S. Consulate in Casablanca, revealed that “entrants for DV-2014, once they obtain a visa, are required to sign the commitment for serving in military service within the armed forces of America. She noted that serving in the US military is part of a U.S. citizen duties, “as the DV means obtaining U.S. citizenship after five years of continuous residence on American land, without any violation of U.S. law.”
Chill added that the candidates are required to have at least Baccalaureate degree or a professional expertise for no less than two years during the past five years.
Applicants must submit entries electronically during the registration period, which opened on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, and will close on November 3, 2012, using the electronic DV entry form (E-DV) at www.dvlottery.state.gov.
The Department of State announced that paper entries and entries received after noon, EDT, on November 3, 2012will not be accepted.
The annual DV program affords 55,000 Diversity Visas each fiscal year to be made available to persons from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
The Department of State will notify entrants of their selection online ( http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ ) on May 1, 2013. Through this website, entrants will be able to use their unique confirmation number, and be provided at registration number through Entry Status Check to see if their entry was selected.
Janice Chill warned candidates to beware of swindlers who illegally use the name the U.S. State Department to ask the participants to perform the registration fee in time, noting that the whole process is free of charge.
