More than one billion people use the online video platform YouTube each month, an increase driven by the strong growth in the use of smartphones; announced the firm owned by Internet giant Google Wednesday, March 21.
The owners of Youtube indicate that one of two internet users visit their website which has become a worldwide success since its launch in 2005. “If YouTube were a country, we would be the third largest country in the world after China and India,” according to Youtub’s owner.
It’s worth noting that Google Company bought YouTube in 2006 for $ 1.65 billion. The large number of users has given YouTube’s owner, Google Inc., another profitable channel for selling online ads in addition to its dominant search engine but the Internet Giant has not yet revealed the amount of profits generated by Youtube. When asked whether the investment was rewarding financially, Robert Kyncl vice president and global head of content partnerships, said “Every year, we reserve the right to get smarter.”
The online video site announced in late January that it was considering offers for paid content accessible only for subscribers. In fact, YouTube already offers since 2011 a series of free channels – a way of preparing the ground for the creation of paid channels.
