Washington- King Mohammed VI offered Friday night dinner at the “Corcoran Gallery” in Washington, on the occasion of his working visit to the United States at the invitation of President Barack Obama, according to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).

The dinner was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar, in the presence of MM. Taib Fassi Fihri and Yassir Znagui the King’s advisor, ministers of the Moroccan government, in addition to the King’s goodwill ambassadors, Ms. Assia Alaoui Bensaleh and Serge Berdugo, other members of the high-level delegation, as well as the ambassador of Morocco in Washington, Rashad Bouhlal.

The dinner was also attended by senior U.S. officials, including Daniel Yohannes , CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation ( MCC), the Director General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde, congressmen , former U.S. ambassadors Morocco, Presidents of American think tanks , in addition to personalities from the world of culture and media from both countries.
In a speech on this occasion, Mezouar paid tribute to the memory of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, “a leader who had a high appreciation of Morocco’s contribution to peace and stability in the world.”

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the minister said, had a “steadfast commitment to strengthen our historic alliance and maintained a special personal relationship with the late King Hassan II.”

The minister said on this occasion that “to honor the memory of the late, His Majesty King Mohammed VI announced a contribution on behalf of President Kennedy for the Peace Corps in Morocco.”

Over the past fifty years, more than 4,530 volunteers from the Peace Corps worked in Morocco according to the vision of President Kennedy to advance the cause of peace in the world, said Mezouar , adding that this gift will to support the vital work of volunteers in Morocco for youth empowerment , rural development , learning the English language , health and the environment.

In this speech, the Minister stressed that the Royal Tour has an “exceptional historical importance that will cement our more resolute friendship.” “United we are because our friendship was able to rise above the vicissitudes of time,” he said, while stressing that the talks between King Mohammed VI and President Barack Obama have put in place “a new roadmap for a more innovative bilateral cooperation that lives up to our respective expectations and serves our mutual interests.”
And enter the “deep conviction of Morocco and the United States that the promotion of bilateral relations is able to breathe more progress and prosperity.”
