Taroudant- Condé Nast Traveler world magazine has released its pick for the ten top cities in Africa and Middle East with Fez, Marrakech and Essaouira on the list.
The American magazine ranked Fez, Marrakech and Essaouira among the best five African and Middle Eastern cities.
Cape Town, the South African city, topped the list of best cities followed by Fez, Marrakech and Essaouira respectively ahead of the Egyptian historic city of Luxur which ranked fifth.
Since the 16th century, Essaouira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also known by its Portuguese name of Mogador, is an outstanding coastal city with a rich culture and history. With its fortified walls, fishing harbor and seagulls soaring and screaming over the town, the city is haven for Gnawa music fans.
Fez, the oldest Imperial city and also a UNESCO World Heritage site, is Morocco’s third largest city. The city is home to Jami Al-Qarawiyyin (al-Karaouine mosque), founded in AD 859, which is the oldest continuously functioning university in the world.
Marrakech, the historic medieval city, with its famous Jemaa El Fna square (third most beautiful square in the world), the famous Koutoubia mosque and the wonderful Majorelle Gardens is ranked the first African tourist destination.
