Law on Mandatory Military Service May Come into Force at the End of 2019

Rabat – Following the warning received by Moroccan authorities on the alleged threat posed by the terrorist groups linked to the Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQMI) and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, Morocco is mobilizing 70,000 troops to prevent terrorist groups from carrying out terrorist attacks against its strategic sites, according to Le360.

According to the same source, the Moroccan army deployed several units in the north, in the central and southern cities.

The situation of alert in Morocco comes following the deterioration of the situation in Libya where fighting between different factions is putting the country on the brink of a civil war.

The situation in this Maghreb country is compounded by the disappearance of 20 million weapons, including 20,000 portable air-defense systems, after the collapse of the regime of the former Libyan strongman Moammar Ghadafi.

Western and Arab capitals fear that these weapons fall into the hands of terrorist groups.

The Moroccan press reported on its weekend issues that the Moroccan army deployed in the coast of Casablanca anti-aircraft missiles, as well as automatic weapons to prevent any potential attack from terrorist groups.
