Rabat – A new decision that will see medical coverage generalized to include all students in Moroccan universities is due to see the light soon.

According to daily newspaper Akhbar Al Yaoum in its December 27th issue, the head of the Moroccan government Abdelillah Benkirane is expected to sign on Monday a decision that will allow more than 200,000 university students to benefit from medical coverage.

Quoting sources acquainted with the matter, the daily newspaper went on to say that the decision was taken long ago, but its financial aspect was the subject of deep discussion that led to the establishment of technical committees in order to reach an adequate formula for the implementation of the new measure dubbed as ‘historic’.

The same source added that the state will assume the bulk of the financial contribution, while the students will pay a minimal fee during the registration period at the university.

First, only university students will benefit from the medical coverage then later it will include students of students from institutions of higher education and students from vocational training institutions.

The operation will be managed by the Caisse Nationale Des Organismes de Prévoyance Sociale (CNOPS) and it is due to take effect starting the next academic year (2015-2016).
