Morocco’s High Speed Train to Be Launched in Summer 2018: ONCF Director

Rabat – The train set for Morocco’s first 12 Alstom Duplex high speed train arrived on Monday in the Port Tangier Med.

The first Moroccan TGV train left in pieces from the port of La Rochelle (western France) on Friday afternoon on board on board a roll-on roll-off vessel which was..), custom-built to carry the Airbus A380 aircraft in sections.

After three hours of unloading, the train set was (transferred to the assembly and maintenance center installed next to the ONCF station of Moghogha.

The high speed train is the first of its kind in Africa. It will link Tangier to Kenitra in only 1:30 hour. In the future, the TGV will connect Tangier to Casablanca in 2:10 hours instead of five hours on the current train.

When the project was launched by King Mohammed VI and the former French President Nicolas Sarkozy in September 2011, the operation of the high speed train was scheduled for December 2015. This was later postponed to 2017 because of delays in the infrastructure work.

The arrival of the next train set is scheduled for late August.
