Rabat – Moroccan artists have become increasingly interested in the political spotlight. After Amazigh celebrity singer Fatima Tabaamrant and actor Yassin Ahjam, Bouchra Ahrichi now following in their footsteps running for a local office in Sale.
On Saturday, Ahrich announced that she will represent Popular Movement Party (MP) in the district of Bab Lamrissa, Sale at the upcoming municipal elections.
The announcement was made at the official launch of MP’s political campaign in Sale.
Bouchra Ahrich told AlYaoum24 that she was encouraged to run for elections by residents of the district of Bab Lamrissa themselves.
Ahrich went on to add that she chose to represent MP since the party puts trust in young women , giving them leadership opportunities.
In recent years, many Moroccan celebrities have run for elections and in many cases, their efforts have been successful.
In 2001, the Amazigh celebrity singer Fatima Chahou known as Tabaamrant was endorsed by the National Rally of Independents Party (RNI) for the parliamentary elections and was subsequently elected a parliamentary member.
In the same year, actor Yassin Ahjam was elected a parliamentary member, after having represented the Justice and Development Party in the parliamentary elections of 2011.
